Ralph Escamillan

Class Description:  Drawing from my experiences as street, commercial, and contemporary dancer, this class is a full exploration of movement. Working with the plethora of pathways and weights of the body, we explore the nuances and explosivity movement to foster both play and control. To begin, we awaken our bodies’ special awareness with improvisation, followed by patterns across the floor inspired by traditional contemporary/ modern technique and street dance technique. As the class progresses, we move onto group, partner, and improvisation tasks, finishing off with a small phrase.

Ralph Escamillan is a dance powerhouse, working for companies/choreographers such as Company 605, Wen Wei Dance,Out Innerspace Theatre, Gil Duldulao, AJ Akamon, Luther Brown, and Kenny Ortega, as well as a graduate of the Contemporary Training Program Modus Operandi. Since 2013, he has taught professionally in a variety of dance styles, including vogue, street jazz, heels, hip hop, contemporary across the country. Becoming a truly versatile and adaptable dancer, he actively encourages others to challenge their own range of movement to create more well-rounded movers. Most notably, Ralph is one of the seminal figures of the thriving Vancouver Vogue/Ballroom scene with Van Vogue Jam, which offers free/by donation classes since 2017. He hopes to further and foster his dance communities, creating more accessible opportunities for those who can benefit from dance.
