Lexi Vajda

Class Description: In this class we will warm our bodies from the inside out, awakening our senses, limbering our perception and relation to space. We will playfully explore the potential ways of inhabiting our bodies to find efficiency and dynamic range. We will work with our experience of the present moment, knowing that what we feel is everything we need.

Beginning with a structured improvisation to awaken our physical curiosities, we will progress through a set of simple exercises to more complex movement phrases. We will work with principles of release-based technique and floor work, slowly finding our feet with an emphasis on finding ease, functional movement mechanics and three-dimensional kinaesthetic awareness.

Lexi Vajda is a Vancouver based independent dance artist and choreographer. She received her contemporary dance training at Modus Operandi in Vancouver and has traveled internationally to workshops including Impulstanz, P.A.R.T.S. and the gaga intensive in Israel. Lexi has had the pleasure of working and performing with Shay Keubler Radical System Arts, Outinnerspace Dance Theatre, the response, Company 605, Theatre Replacement, plastic orchid factory, Kinesis Dance Somatheatro, Mascall Dance, Emmalena Frederiksson, Delia Brett, Wen Wei Wang and Karissa Barry.

Her independent choreographies investigate alternative and peripheral spaces for choreography as well as collaborative creative practices. Her work has been presented at various festivals and venues including Interplay, An Exact Vertigo at Unit/Pitt Gallery, the ‘splay space’ at The Dance Centre, the Festival of Recorded Movement and most recently at the Boombox. Lexi regularly teaches contemporary technique at various dance schools throughout the lower mainland, Modus Opernadi and at Harbour Dance Centre.
